Funeral services for Mrs. John H. Cross, who passed away Friday, July 2, at St. Lucas hospital, following a long illness were held Monday, July 5, at the Boldt Funeral home with the Rev. W. A. Lemke officiating. The Trinity Lutheran choir sang "Asleep in Jesus, " "Jesus Saviour, Pilot Me" and "Be Still, My Soul." Interment was made in Maple Lawn cemetery with six cousins serving as pallbearers including Emil, William, Robert, Walter, Herman and Ernest Schmidtke, all of Morristown.
Bertha Louise Ahlman was born September 11, 1891 the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Ahlman of Morristown. She was baptized by the Rev. H. Schultz and confirmed by the Rev. August Zitzman in North Morristown. She attended Trinity Lutheran school and assisted her mother with the housework. On February 25, 1910 she was united in marriage to John H. Cross. They made their home in Sandstone for five years then returned to Faribault where they have since made their home. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran church the Lutheran Ladies auxiliary and the Lutheran Ladies aid society of the church.
She is survived by her husband, two daughters Mrs. Harold Spitzack (Ruth) and Mrs. Harry Waskosky (Ruby) and three sons, Harold, Joseph H. and Spearl, all of Faribault. Another son, John J. was killed while serving with the military forces in Germany, in March, 1945. A daughter, Evaline, pased away when six months old. She is also survived by two brothers, Frank H. Ahlman and Gustav Ahlman, both of Morristown. Relatives and friends from a distance attending the funeral service were the Rev. and Mrs. Arnold Ahlman of Lincoln, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Ahlman, Monona, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Smith, Stillwater; Mr. and Mrs. E. Pike, Pine Island, Mrs. Elizabeth Cross and Mrs. L. Smith of Rochester; Mr. and Mrs. Erwin P. Wolf, Nerstrand; Gilbert, Maynard and Doris Christenson and Mrs. Helga Wold and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Schmidtke of Webster. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Schmidtke, Farmington; Mrs. Doris Goodthunder, Jeanette and Joan Cross of Minneapolis; Charlie McNiel of Waseca; Mr. and Mrs. R. Glor, Mrs. H. Glor, Ervin Schmidtke, all of Nerstrand and many relatives and friends from Morristown and vicinity.
