Farmer - Powel came to Owasco around 1812 and settled in Lot 84. He acquired a large farm of 600 acres, part of the bounty lands set aside for line soldiers of the Revolutionary War. Portions of the land remained in the family for at least 4 generations. Powel was one of three brothers (Peter (memorial id 44639782) and Isaac (memorial id 44639781)) from Somerset Co to move to Cayuga Co in the Finger Lakes District in central NY. They settled in the town of Owasco in an area which came to be known as "Dutch Hollow". It is located between Skaneateles and Owasco Lakes.
