She was born on June 4, 1940, to Cecil and June (Warren) Atkinson in Indianaola, Neb. Darlene excelled at and truly enjoyed being a Tupperware consultant for more than 30 years. She was also very active in her church, First Baptist Church of Rensselaer, as a member of the Ladies Missionary Circle, church treasurer, nursery attendant and more. Darlene enjoyed being a participant in the Relay for Life each year and truly enjoyed catching up over lunch with classmates from the Remington High School Class of 1958,
Darlene is survived by her best friend and longtime companion Timothy Tomasello Sr.; her son LaVerne Lee (Marcia) Goad Jr., of Goshen; her son Kenneth Charles (Rhonda) Goad, of Indianapolis; and her daughter Lisa Faye (Mike) Brooking, of Colorado Springs, Colo. She is also survived by Tim's children, Timothy Tomasello Jr. and Teresa (Darcy) Bennett, of Peachtree City, Ga. She was a proud grandma to nine grandchildren, Vernon, Valarie, Jennifer, Jessica, Cara, Alex, Culley, Jessica and Rikki; and four great-grandchildren, Ricky Lee, Skyler Paul, Liam Anthony and Kylee Elisabeth. Darlene is also survived by two sisters, Carol (Dean) Jensen, of Rochester, and Donna (Otis) Reynolds, of Remington; two brothers, Larry Atkinson, of Monticello, and Steve Atkinson, of Pontiac, Ill.; her uncle, Ronald (Gloria) Warren, of McCook, Neb.; and her aunt, Virginia Restano, of Remington.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and June Atkinson; her sister, Shirley (Bramble) Scheffer; brothers, Ronald Atkinson and Charles Atkinson; and her great-granddaughter, Cherokee Pillow.
Visitation will be held Thursday at the Jackson Funeral Chapel, 250 N. McKinley Ave., Rensselaer, from 4-8 p.m. CDT. Funeral services will be Friday at the First Baptist Church of Rensselaer, 2010 N. McKinley Ave., at 10 a.m. CDT, with Pastor Dan Hester officiating. Burial will follow at the Remington Cemetery.
