Mary L. Freeman, age 86, of Tipton and formerly of Kempton passed away on Tuesday March 26, 2012 at IU Health Tipton Hospital. She was born on April 23, 1925 in Kempton, IN to L. Guy and Martha (Hinkle) Orr. On April 11, 1942 Mary was married to John S. Freeman and he passed away on February 9, 2000. Mary was a graduate of Kempton High School and a member of the Kempton Christian Church. She retired in 1982 from Mallory in Frankfort, IN after 10 plus years with the company. Prior to Mallory, Mary had worked at the Kempton Telephone Company and the Union State Bank in Kempton. In her spare time she enjoyed crocheting afghans and looked forward to preparing the big family dinners on Sunday, where she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Surviving are three sons: Jan (Patricia) Freeman of Overland Park, KS, Jay Freeman of San Diego, CA, John (Heidi) Freeman of Kempton, a daughter, Joan (David) O'Malley of Tipton, and a daughter in law Charleen Freeman of Kokomo. Surviving grandchildren include: Mark (Kim) Freeman of Conifer, CO, Keith (Tobi) Freeman of Overland Park, KS, Theresa (Jeff) Dart of Pewaukee, WI, Steven (Andrea) Freeman of Kokomo, Erin (Jeremy) Vaughn of Lafayette, David Nickerson, and Andy Nickerson both of Overland Park, KS. Other survivors include two sisters: Martha Hawkins of Tipton, Jean Unger of Lebanon, a sister in law Mary Jo Tunis of Anderson, twelve great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, a son Jerry L. Freeman, a grandson Bradford Nickerson and infant granddaughter Stacy Freeman. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Friday March 30, 2012 at the Porter Funeral Home located at 726 East North Street in Tipton. Visitation will take place from 4-8 PM on Thursday March 29 at Porter's. Pastor Steve Brown will be officiating. Interment will take place in Kempton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Howard County Relay for Life "Team 100" in Kokomo.
