Gerald Leland Heesch was born September 17, 1931, at Flandreau, SD, to George and Helen (Howell) Heesch. He grew up and attended school at Elkton, SD, and graduated from Elkton High School in 1949. He enlisted in the US Navy and served from 1949 until 1953 on board several ships during the Korean War. On November 19, 1955, he married Eleanor Herold in Taylors Falls, MN. They lived in Madison, Centerville, Sioux Falls, Chamberlain and had been residents of Mitchell since 1998. For thirty-seven years, he was employed by Northwestern Bell, US West and Qwest, until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the American Legion, and was a Boy Scout and Webelos leader in Sioux Falls and Chamberlain. He enjoyed boating, sailing, hunting, fishing and RV'ing.



He is survived by his wife, Eleanor of Mitchell; two sons: David Heesch and wife, Monica of Ham Lake, MN, Daniel Heesch and wife, Staci of Mitchell; two daughters: Lois Banaszak and husband, Michael of Everson, PA, Barbara Canby and husband, Robert of Gold Canyon, AZ; thirteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild; five brothers and sisters: Eugene Heesch and wife, Joann of Brooklyn Center, MN, Rosella Herold of Forest Grove, OR, Mary Fischer and husband, Clyde of Aitken, MN, Margaret Roemen and husband, Bud of Garland, TX and Patricia Bayer and husband, Jerry of Burlington, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents.
