He served as a private in the Union army during the Civil War. He mustered in on March 21, 1862 at Rochester, Ky and was discharged on Nov. 2, 1862 at Louisville, Ky on Surgeons Certificate of Disability. From Roll of Co. B 27th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry.
