Beloved father of Mary (Jim) Frederick of Naperville, Janet (Kelly) Mullins of New Caney, TX and Dennis Schaefer of Minnesota, adored grandfather of Lisa (Luke) Riddell, Jason (Debbie) Schmidt, Stephanie (Brian) Fisher, Lance Coyer, Jesse Coyer and Nicole Mullins, cherished great-grandfather of Allyson, Matthew, Alayna, Samantha, Julia, Logan and Kaylie, devoted son of the late Jacob and Anna Schaefer, dear brother of Fr. Bernard Schaefer, Dee (Robert) Vlakancic, Ray Schaefer, Kay Beckman, Annie (Nick) Deutch, Jeannie (Allen) Esser, Fritz Schaefer, Barb (Bill) Linden, Mary Ann Schaefer and the late Fritz Schaefer, fond uncle of many.
Al served in the U.S. Navy during World War II serving on the USS Eugene E. Elmore (DE 686).
He worked as a tool & die maker for many years for Austin-Western Co., Aurora, American Can Company and Argonne National Laboratory, Argonne, IL.
He was a longtime member of St. Irene Catholic Church in Warrenville and was also a member of the Warrenville VFW and American Legion and the Loyal Order of the Moose, Aurora.
Al retired to Alma, WI on the Mississippi River where he was able to pursue his great love for fishing.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, March 12th at 11:00 AM at Annunciation B. V. M. Catholic Church, 1820 Church Rd, Aurora, IL. Reception will follow.
Future Inurnment will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
