CAPT. HENRY PENNINGTON celebrated his 81st birthday August 20th last at his home in Silver Grove. He was born in Baltimore Maryland in 1814 and came to New Albany in 1838 and has lived here continuously since that time. Capt. Pennington will be remembered by the older citizens, for of late years he has not gone about much. He was one of the forty-niners that traveled overland to California in search of gold. He served in the Seminole, Mexican [and] Civil wars and bids fair to live many years. He is the father of Major Geo. H. and S. M. Pennington. He was lieutenant of the Spencer Grays, a crack military company half a century ago in this city. - Public Press 29 Aug 1895
