Dr. Robert Minor Winn, Sr. was the fourth child of Minor Winn and his wife, Paulina Seneca Wright.
He married Tabitha Elizabeth Bates about 1841 at Cane Hill, Washington County, Arkansas.

The Winns belonged to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. As a member, Dr. Winn assisted in establishing Cane Hill College in 1840. It is now the University of the Ozarks.

In 1870, the family was living in Pittsburg Township, Johnson County. Dr. Winn died May 15, 1879 and Tabitha died after the Grant Township census of June 14, 1900.

Robert's mother died at Milton Township, Bedford, Trimble County, Kentucky on 12 Jul 1851. His father, Minor Winn, an attorney, died on 5 May 1861. Their graves have not been found.
