Florence Elizabeth "Polly" Green, b. Jul. 18, 1876 in CA. and d. Feb. 08, 1961 in Los Angeles, L.A., CA.

Susan P. Hathaway, b. Mar. 22, 1845 and d. Feb. 03, 1906.
In 1881, John and Susan bought what is now Rancho Los Alamitos in Long Beach and lived in the ranch house there.
When John and Susan died, Fred and Florence and their children moved into the ranch house to live. In 1968, the Bixby heirs deeded the 7.5 surviving acres of Rancho Los Alamitos to the City of Long Beach.

Fred and Florence's children were:
1) Katharine Bixby, b. Jun. 16, 1899 in Long Beach, L.A., CA. and d. Oct. 10, 1979 in Pasadena, Los Angeles, CA.
2) Florence Elizabeth Bixby, b. Nov. 11, 1900 in Long Beach, L.A., CA. and d. Sep. 23, 1993 in Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara, CA.

San Gabriel, L.A., CA.

*Note: Some members of the Bixby family have contributed charming memoirs of life on the ranch (Rancho Los Alamitos in Long Beach) during the early years of the twentieth century. Two come from the pen of Fred's oldest daughter, Katharine Bixby Hotchkis Christmas Eve at Rancho Los Alamitos (San Francisco, 1957, revised edition 1971) and Trip with Father (San Francisco 1971, 2nd edition).
Her mother Florence Bixby, published two volumes: Is There a Thing Called Spring (Pasadena, 1936) and Verses (1914). Sarah Bixby Smith beguiles us with Adobe Days: A Book of California Memories (Fresno, California, 1974, 4th edition, somewhat revised).
Susanna Bixby Dakin, author of the biography of Hugo Reid mentioned above, adds her memories in A Scent of Violets (San Francisco, 1986). Family genealogist, A. Maxon Smith provides the Hathaway-Bixby Quick Reference Guide (Long Beach, 1964).
