Graveside service for Sylvan C. "Sid" Caudill, 77, a retired teacher and former owner of Lincoln Heights Grocery, will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Pines Mausoleum, Father John F. Hurley officiating. Burial will follow at the Pines, with Thornhill's in the Valley in charge.

Mr. Caudill died Sunday at a local hospital.

Born in Taney County, Mo., he was graduated from Lewis and Clark High School and Cheney Normal School (Eastern Washington University). After receiving his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Washington, Mr. Caudill taught high school and junior high school in Edmonds and Seattle for 13 years.

In the grocery business 20 years, Mr. Caudill operated a store on Spokane's North Side before owning and operating the Lincoln Heights store 17 years. He later taught five years with Spokane School District 81 before retiring 17 years ago.

He was a member of the Spokane Retired Teachers Association.

Mr. Caudill and Lucille Hughes of Spokane were married 49 years ago in Montana.

Survivors include his wife, at the home; one son, Barry of Seattle; two daughters, Mrs. James A. (Patricia) Noe of Mercer Island and Mrs. Leonard "Al" (Janet) Brooks of Edmonds; two brothers, Edgar and Paul, both of Spokane; seven sisters, Gladys Newby, Pansy Harris, Elizabeth Erickson, Virginia Gillingham and Mary Pierone, all of Spokane, and Lura Wynia and Dorothy Auchampach, both of Pasco; six grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
