George D. Bailey, 71, of 1519 North St., died in his home Saturday morning. He was born in South Newfane, Vt., July 20, 1891, son of the late Dwight and Minnie (Stedman) Bailey. He was a deacon of Agawam Baptist Church and a member of the church for 60 years. Formerly a tobacco farmer, he had been an inspector at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft Division of United Aircraft Corp., for 13 years before retiring in 1956. Besides his wife, the former Florence Birge, he leaves four sons, Harold D. of Warehouse Point, Douglas of Hazardville, Carleton of East Hartford and Kendall of Suffield; four daughters, Mrs. Barbara Marston of Unionville, Mrs. Gwendolyn Howe of Windsor, Mrs. Lois Wells of Thompsonville and Mrs. Jeanne Webster of Agawam, Mass,; three brothers, Roy and Chauncey, both of Agawam and Chester of St. Johnsbury, Vt, two sisters, Mrs. Blanche Dickinson of Hampden, Mass., and Mrs. Nela Bangs of Fairhaven, Mass., and 23 grandchildren. The funeral will be Monday at 2 in Agawam Baptist Church. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Calling hours at Nicholson funeral home are today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Memorial contributions may be made to Agawam Baptist Church or to the Heart Fund.
