James F. Littman, born 1923, in Stuart, Florida to Michael George Littman and Annie Elizabeth Morrison Littman, died March 22, 2012 at Carteret General Hospital, Morehead City, NC.

Most recently, he was a resident of Snug Harbor on Nelson Bay, Sea Level, NC.

He is survived by his four sons: Michael Littman and his wife, Susan Cornman of Arvada, Colorado; Neal Littman and his wife, Gwen Littman of Beaufort, NC; Curtis Littman and his wife, Mary Littman of Fredericksburg, Texas; and Thomas Littman of Chapel Hill, NC. Mr. Littman is also survived by the families of his sons, including many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mr. Littman was educated at The Bolles School, Jacksonville, Florida; the University of Florida and Stetson University College of Law.

In war, he served as a Field Artillery officer in the United States Army in the Pacific Theater of Operations during and after the end of WW II.

Subsequently, he married Evangeline Janney Johnson Littman who preceded him in death in 1994, and they initially made their home at the family farm at Littman, Florida.

Mr. Littman studied law beginning in 1960, graduated with honors, and joined his father in the practice of law in Stuart, Florida at the firm of (Judge A. O.) Kanner and Littman.

The Littman and Littman law firm had a civil practice and served the Martin County Schools and many other government, law enforcement, institutional, business and individual clients. Mr. Littman was appointed for a time by the Governor to serve as a special State Attorney, prosecuting public corruption cases. His law firm continues to this day, practicing as Littman, Sherlock and Heims, by his partners and friends, Virginia Sherlock and Howard Heims in Stuart, Florida.

After his 1989 retirement from actively practicing law Mr. Littman moved to St. Mary's Road, Hillsborough, NC and was just as immersed in community activities as he had been professionally. First Baptist Church, Hillsborough, NC heard enthusiastic participation in the choir and in other church life by Mr. Littman. Other contributions included decades of support for Samaritan House for Boys and Families, participation in various dance groups, American Cancer Society, OCIM (Orange Congregations in Mission), and the Rose Society. He was a life-long member of [Washington] F & A Masonic Lodge #2, Quincy, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Samaritan Center at 1490 SE Cove Road, Stuart, FL 34997.

Funeral Arrangements are made by Brooks Funeral Home and Crematory, Morehead City, NC and Clements Funeral Home, Hillsborough, NC.

A graveside service and interment will be held at the Hillsborough, NC Town Cemetery on Saturday, April 14th, at 2:00 pm.

His family and friends will miss him.
