Hobson was the sixth child of eight children born to William M. Jay and Emma Dulcima Poyser. He first married Bessie Bell Stallings (daughter of John Preston Stallings and Sarah Ann Lancaster) on 21 Sep 1904 in Alfalfa County, OK. They had three children:

Alyce Cleone--married Wilford Sylvestor Kincheloe

When his wife died, he remarried to a widow named Mrs. Hylca Gertrude Green (Womack) (daughter of Strother Hamilton Green and Florence Roselle Thomas) on 5 Oct 1940 in Alva, OK. She had one son. They had no children together.
