John was the youngest of four children born to Jacob Hochstetler Sr. and Barbara Miller. He first married Elizabeth Hinckle who died before 1823. They had two sons and two daughters. He married a second time to Elizabeth Stevanus (b. ca 1802). They had three sons and five daughters. He was a farmer and distiller. He was called "Lame John" according to the Hochstetler history, so he probably had some infirmity. They were members of the Dunkard or German Baptist Church.

Hello
from Descendants of Jacob HOCHSTETLER, c1912, page 75,
it lists John Hostetler (he changed it from HOCH to HOS) as being born in 1776 and the first child of Jacob HOCHSTETLER.

Perhaps we need to research and collaborate this date.
