Opelousas — Funeral services Fannie Lucille DeJean Genin, age 87, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2012, in the Episcopal Church of Epiphany. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park of Opelousas.
Father Pete Smith will officiate the service.
Mrs. Fannie was a long time resident of Opelousas. She passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2012, at Acadia - St. Landry Guest Home.
Mrs. Fannie was an agricultural editor for the Daily World for many years. She was very active lady. She was a pilot, Collegiate National Debate Finalist, speech/debate coach for A.I.C, wonderful cook, mentor, poet, fisherman, hunter, Girl Scout Leader, farmer, horsewoman, photographer, President of LA Cattleman's Association, gardener, but most of all she keep the family stories and history. She was a great friend. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Mrs. Fannie was a very special daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Survived by her children; Charles G. "Casey" Genin Jr, and wife, Debra of Opelousas, Marie Lucille Hammons, Preston Hammons both of Covington, LA, Charlotte Ann Kahanek and husband, Daniel of Opelousas, Carolyn "Petsy" Mills and husband, Cliff of Opelousas, sister, Catherine DeJean, of Church Point, nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, special niece, Joan DeJean and special Nephew, Richard DeJean.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Garland and Julia Duson DeJean, her husband, Charles Genin, Sr., and sister, Jackie Turregano.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Episcopal Church of Epiphany, on Saturday, March 24, 2012, from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m.
