NOBLECHIZEN PASSES
GEORGE J. CUNNINGHAM, ONE OF THIS SECTION'S MOST STERLING CITIZENS, DIED THIS MORNING AT 1:20 O'CLOCK-LEADING MEMBER OF BAPTIST CHURCH FUNERAL TOMORROW AT LATE HOME AT 10 A. M.
In the death of George J. Cunning ham this" community sustains an irreparable loss. He passed away at his late home on South Fourth Street at 1:20 this morning. The deceased was born in Casey County, January 1849, thus he was in his 76th year a long and well spent Christian life. A neighbor, who brought the sad news to The Advocate office this morning, touchingly said: "No man ever had a better neighbor. He was always thoughtful, generous and sympathetic and this community never had a better citizen." No higher tribute could be paid a man than this. There is seen in it the spirit of "Love Thy Neighbor as Thyself." The deceased was a life-long member of the Baptist church and when his health would permit, he was always a constant attendant and was one who could be counted upon to do his full share in carrying the church's burdens. He was a member of that old school of Southern gentlemen, who are so rapin passing, leave a void that cannot idly passing from our midst and who, be filled. Mr. Cunningham was a gentleman of strong convictions and he was invariably found on the right and moral side of all questions and maintained his position with vigor. Early in life the deceased was married to Miss Betty Spragins and from this happy union sprang three children Mrs. John Baughman, of Moreland, Miss Carrie Cunningham and Mr. Leslie Cunningham, of Danville all of whom, with the mother survive and they have the sincere and heartfelt sympathy of all In this community In their sad bereavement. Besides the above a brother and three sisters survive. Mr. George A. Burke, of this city, is also a nephew. In 1910 Mr. Cunningham moved to Boyle county and at once took high rank in this community. While he owned the John J. Yeiser farm on the Shakertown road, he had practically retired from farming and his son, Leslie, was running the place. The funeral will be held from the late home tomorrow (Wednesday) morning at ten o'clock, after which interment will take place In Bellevue Cemetery. Dr. W. L. Doolan, the pastor, will conduct the services.
