Phyllis was a daughter of Clayton Evan Saunders and Maude Ann Bias. She was the youngest child with two older siblings, Daphne Irene and Malcolm Franklin. She was a graduate of Huntington High School, Class of 1938. Phyllis married Billy Joe Holtzworth and they were the parents of two children, Josette & Jonathan.
