Born to Elias James Armstrong (1787-1855) & Elizabeth McCauley Frierson (1794-1841) in Maury Co., TN. Married to Mary E. Smith (1815-1859). Issue: Dr. William James Armstrong (1839-1878, Memphis Yellow Fever physician), Mary Eliza, Martha Jane, Helen Smith, John Wilson, Annie Osgood & Ida Duncan.
