Louis A Shoemaker:
Carleton, June 6--Louis Albert Shoemaker, 82, died at 2:35 am today in St Vincent's Hospital, Toledo, where he had been two weeks. He had made his home with his son, Edwin of Monroe. The body is at the Baker funeral home where services will be held at 2 pm Thursday followed at 2:30 by services in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, Sandy Creek. The Rev John M. Hieber will officiate and burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. Born in Oak Harbor, Ohio, Sept 8, 1867, he was the son of Jacob and Roseanna Shoemaker. When he was 16 the family moved to Exeter Township. He worked on farms in the area and (on Easter Sunday -Lo Marie) April 16 1895, married Mary Zink in Holy Ghost Church. They lived in London Township and then Exeter Township before going to Sumpter Township, Wayne County. Returning to Exeter Township they lived on South Stoney Creek Rd, the present family homestead. His wife died Sept 26, 1926. For 19 years after his wife's death he lived with his son, Erwin, of Carleton, who operated a hatchery. The elder Mr. Shoemaker designed a baby chick shipping crate which was patented. Survivors are two sons, Erwin of Carleton and Edwin of Monroe; a daughter, Mrs. Carl Doederlein of the homestead farm; two sisters, Mrs Emma Gerick of Scofield and Mrs Ida Knabusch of Monroe, and eight grandchildren.

*Louis Shoemaker was a resident of Scofield, where he was a farmer, age 27 years, born in Ohio, when he married Mary Zink, age 23 years, born in Michigan and a resident of Carleton, Monroe County, Michigan at the time of their marriage on April 16, 1895 at Sandy Creek by Pastor Andres. William Shoemaker and Phillip Zink, Anna ? all residents of Exeter, were the witnesses for the ceremony. (MRMC, Vol 4, pg 2740. Louis and Mary had an infant son, who died in 1906, buried in the old church cemetery.

*Louis Shoemaker, son of Jakob (John Jacob) Shoemaker, made confirmation on September 9, 1867 at Fremont, Ohio. On a Palm Sunday, April 7, 1895, Louis made confirmation at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church at Sandy Creek, Monroe County, Michigan. Confirmation text was from Romans 8-18. (pg 211-1893-1895. His place of baptism was Fremont, Ohio under Pastor Lang. When Louis' children, Erwin and Edwin made their confirmation, his name was under Luther at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church.
