Archibald Gabriel Litson's cremated remains were never taken after his death and are still available at the Oregon State Hospital to be claimed by anyone who is related. Since Archibald never had children, his closest living relatives are descendants of his siblings.

Archibald was born in Countisbury, Devon County, England in the summer of 1863. His mother, Mary Anne Symonds, was born in Northam, Devon, England about 1827. His father, John Litson, was born in Countisbury about 1826. They were married in the summer of 1853 in Devon County, England. Their children (all born in Countisbury) were: John George Symonds Litson (about 1854), William F. (about 1855), Emma H (about 1859), Reginald Charles (about 1861), and Archibald (in 1863).

At the time of the 1861 census,(taken before Archibald was born), his parents and siblings were living in Countisbury, Devon County where his father was operating a 150 acres farm known as South Wilsham. Archibald's uncle and namesake Gabriel Litson was also living with the family.

During the 1871 census, Archibald was 8 years old and living with his parents and siblings on South Wilsham in Countisbury. His father and older brother John were farming 140 acres.

In the census of 1881, Archibald was listed as a visitor in the home of an innkeeper in Countisbury. His occupation was "farmer's son." Meanwhile his parents and brothers John (26) and William (24) were living nearby in Coutisbury. Archibald's father was a retired farmer and his brothers were millers.

At the time of the 1891 census, Archibald was 27, a single police constable boarding in a private home in Willesden, Middlesex County, England. Meanwhile his parents were living in Parracombe, Devon County where Archibald's father was employed as a caretaker of a farm. Archibald's single brothers John & William, his widowed sister Emma Dovell as well as Emma's 13 year old son William J. L. Dovell were also living in the home. were living with them. Emma's husband had died in 1885. Brother John was a butcher and William was a farm servant.

Between 1891 and August 1895, Archibald immigrated to the US and was living in San Francisco, California. In 1896 he was working there as a porter at Grand Hotel. In 1897 he was selling cigars and tobacco in San Francisco. He continued to be listed in the San Francisco city directory in 1899 and 1900.

It is believed his mother died about 1891 and about 1901 Archibald's father died. Brother William never married. Brother John married. He and his wife, Eliza Jane Flynn, had a son, John Flynn Litson, about 1902. Brother Reginald married and he and his wife had at least 7 children: Florence, Reginald, Gertrude, Beatrice, Archibald, Morty, and Olive.

It appears Archibald spent some time in October 1900 in Kansas where he had a run-in with the law and resisted arrest. By the time of the 1910 census he was working as a miner in Delta, Shasta County, in northern California. In 1912 Archibald was single living in Multnomah County, Oregon, in or near Portland.

On 10/21/1912 he was admitted to the Oregon State Hospital, a residential facility in Salem, Oregon for the treatment of people with mental illness. After being a patient at the institution for almost 4 years he died there on 9/7/1916. The cause of death was "epilepsy" which may mean he died of an uncontrolled sustained seizure. He was 53 years old. He was survived by at least some of his siblings, but all of them were still in England and may have known nothing of his circumstances.
