MORGANTON - Mrs. Marie "Kate" Heavner Alexander, 72, of 3rd Street in Taylorsville, formerly of Morganton, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, at Catawba Memorial Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Clyde and Selma Powell Heavner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Larry Dean Alexander and five brothers.
She is survived by her husband, Clyde Floyd Alexander; three daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth and Billy Lovelace of Glen Alpine, Susan and Carl Branch of Valdese, and Priscilla and David Johnson of Morganton; four brothers, Charles "Chick" Heavner, Tom Heavner and Kenneth Heavner, all of Shelby and Jim Heavner of Lawndale; a sister, Jo Ann Bell of Shelby; four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Union Baptist Church in Shelby with Pastor Ricky Parlier and the Rev. Eddie Bunton officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Sossoman Funeral Home and other times at the home of Susan Branch, 303 Hauss Ridge Road in Valdese.
