Two gray caskets were lowered
side by side Sunday afternoon in the
cemetery at Calcium at the double
funeral of Mr. and Mrs. Milton C.
Dunten, lifelong residents of the
village north of here. They died within
two days of each other, after having
been poisoned by eating berries
two weeks before in Florida.
Watertown, April 18.-—Less than
twenty-four hours after the death of her
husband, of whose passing away she had
not been Informed, Mrs. Anna C. Dunton (sic),
widow of Milton C Dunton (sic), died
yesterday morning at their home near
Sanfords Corners, about six miles north
of this city, after a short Illness Mr. Dutton (sic),
who was 76 years of age
and who was born at Oxbow, Jefferson
county, but who had spent most of his
life on a truck farm at Sanfords Corners,
was taken ill about six weeks ago
while on a visit to his son, Roscoe Dunton in Florida.
The son brought him
home and remained with him until about
two weeks ago. A few days ago the
sick man was brought to the City hospital
here, where he died early Wednesday
morning The remains were taken
to the home at Sanford but Mrs. Dunton,
who was a native of Fulton county
and was 54 years of age had meanwhile
been taken ill with symptoms similiar
to those of the husband and was delirious,
so all knowledge of Her husband's death was kept from her until the end. While the exact nature of the disease from which the couple suffered
has not heen given out, it is stated that
both died from natural causes.
Mr, Dunton was a veteran of the civil
war, serving with Company A, 147th New
York volunteers, and fought under Grant
at the battle of the Wilderness. Mrs.
Dunton was an active member of the
Union church at Sanfords Comers.
The couple leave two sons Milton
Dunton. jr., of Washington, D. C . who
is on his way to his old home, and Roscoe
Dunton of Florida, who has been notified
of the death of his parents, and one
daughter. Miss Grace Dunton who lived
at home. Mrs. Dunton (sic) also leaves three
sisters, Mrs. Benjamin Sanford, Mrs
Isaac Crannell and Mrs D. D. Crouse,
all of Fulton county; two brothers W.
H Brown of this city and C. E Brown
of Wisconsin and her mother, Mrs.
Rachel Brown of Fulton.
A double funeral will be held at the
family home at Sanfords Corners at 5
o'clock tomorrow afternoon, the Rev.
J. C. Barber of Black Biver officiating
The burial will be made at the Sanfords
Corners cemetery.
