Son of James Anderson Armistead and Emily Strong Colley. Husband of Annie Huson. Served as a Private (Pvt) [mustered in March 4, 1862], in Company H (“Walton Tigers”; Walton County, Ga), 42d Regiment Georgia (Volunteer) Infantry, Army of Tennessee, Confederate States Army (CSA). Appointed 3d Sergeant February 1863 Captured at Vicksburg, Miss. July 4, 1863 (the Confederate surrender ending the Union Army’s Siege of Vicksburg in the Vicksburg Campaign) and paroled there July 6, 1863; remarks: "Sick in hospital." Sent to Mobile, Ala. for exchange July 30, 1863 Pension records show he was wounded in hip and permanently disabled during the Battle of Resaca (part of the Union Army's Atlanta Campaign, fought in Gordon and Whitfield counties) Ga. on May 25, 1864, and was at home, wounded, close of war.
Was Tax Receiver for Fulton County for 34 years. He and Annie had seven children.
