Allen Barr and three sons served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. Son, Richmond, died in the battle of Spotsylvania Courthouse. The other three family members returned home wounded.
Jane moved with her parents at the age of 13 from North Carolina to Carroll County, Tennessee. In 1839 she moved with her husband and one child to Grenada, Mississippi. The family moved to Bell County, Texas in 1869 and to the J. R. Townsen farm on the Lampasas River in Lampasas County, Texas in about 1874. Two years later they settled on a farm in Mills County, Texas.
