While attending high school in East Lansing Michigan, Washington, D.C.-born Jackie Sharkoff met and went steady with fellow student Paul R. Theroux. They broke up shortly after beginning college, with Paul going off to fight World War II in the South Pacfic and Jackie marrying Everett Windahl and settling in Lakeway, Texas. The high school sweethearts lost contact with each other until their 50th high school reunion, which they attended with their respective spouses. Not long after that, on February 10, 1985, Everett died in Travis, Texas. The next year, Paul's wife, Marjorie, learned that she had terminal cancer. Marjorie suggested to Paul that, after her demise, he should look up and reunite with Jackie, who was then living in Travis, TX. After Marjorie's death in 1987, Paul did exactly that. He and Jackie were wed on January 10, 1990 and went on to spend the last 20 years of her life together in Clearwater, Florida.
