Leila Christmas West of Camden, SC died March 16, 2012, at age 95. Born in Camden, SC, March 3, 1917, she was the daughter of James Edward and Beulah Price Christmas. Leila graduated from Camden High School in 1934.
Ms. West worked with her family in the Christmas Grocery Store, managed the family farm, and retired from Skyline Manufacturing. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she was a former secretary for her Sunday School class and a member of the Sunshine Girls. In her early years, she enjoyed painting and crafts which she shared with her family. Ms. West enjoyed cooking and serving meals to her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughters, Nancy W. Speaks and Becky W. Rush, both of Camden; sons, Henry West, of Anderson, Alex West and his wife, Pam, of Cassatt, and John West, of Camden; 18 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Joe Christmas, of Camden. Ms. West was predeceased by a son, Caston West; brothers, Clarence, Alvin, and William Christmas; sisters, Ruth Marshall and Wilma Rowell.
