Born in Atlanta, GA, she was a daughter of the late William Jonas Johnson and Mary Gordon Thompson. She was an auctioneer and was very skilled at quilting and crocheting. Mrs. Barnes was loved by everyone who met her.
Surviving in addition to her husband are three sons, Brooks S. Barnes of Laurens, SC, C.A. Barnes, Jr. of Townville, SC, and Sam Barnes of Taylors, SC; one daughter, Cynthia Martin of Appleton, WI; one brother, Butch Johnson of St. Simons Island, GA; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Jimmy Barnes.
