A graveside service for Leon J. Hurta of Baytown, formerly of Rockdale, was held Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at New Salem Cemetery near Centerville.
Mr. Hurta died Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009.
He had resided in Baytown for the past 12 years and previously lived in Rockdale for 45 years.
Mr. Hurta was a World War II veteran, returning home in April 1945.
He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. for 37 years before his retirement.
Mr. Hurta enjoyed spending time with family and friends and also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was the husband for 62 years and the father of three daughters. He was the Papaw to five grandchildren. He was the father-in-law of and was preceded in death by two much loved sons-inlaw.
Also preceding him in death were his parents, Joe and Effie Hurta; four brothers; six sisters; and in-laws, Teddy and Mae Rodell.
