Fern Minna Katharina (Blanke) Hintz was born to Lewis Anton F.C.H. and Wilhelmine Maria Caroline (Rippe) Blanke on November 1, 1908, in rural Ohiowa, Nebraska. Fern passed away March 16, 2012, at Blue Valley Lutheran Nursing Home in Hebron, Nebraska.

Fern was the oldest of three children in the family. Fern was a life-long member of Grace Lutheran Church, Ohiowa. She was baptized January 10, 1909 and confirmed April 9, 1922. She attended school at Districts #34, #39, and #84 and graduated from 8th grade.

Fern worked for many fellow neighbors over the years before entering into marriage with Paul Hintz on February 22, 1934. To this union, one son, Verlyn Dean, was born on May 21, 1939. Fern and Paul lived in the rural areas around Strang, Ohiowa, and Bruning, Nebraska. She performed many farm life duties including picking corn by hand with horses, milking cows, raising chickens, driving the tractor, and learning to run the combine while her son was in the service. Fern wasn't afraid of any work to be done and was always willing to help anyone in need.

Her hobbies included gardening, canning, sewing, and quilting. She had strong Christian faith and was an active member of the Grace Lutheran Ladies Aid serving in all offices throughout her membership. She also enjoyed going to many barn dances throughout the surrounding area. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was always interested and proud of them in their activities. She never missed a Grandparents Day celebration.

In 2011, she went to live at the Blue Valley Lutheran Nursing Home and later the Courtyard Terrace. She kept busy with all the activities, and especially liked peeling potatoes. Many knew Fern as an avid story teller known for her sharp memory and detailed recollection. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
