Wesley R. Alkire of Las Cruces left his earthly home for his heavenly home on Friday, March 16, 2012. Wesley was born to William S. and Mamie B. Alkire (Lawrence) in Anapra, New Mexico on November 11, 1923. Wesley was a very patriotic American, and proud to serve his country during World War II in the United States Navy, serving on the USS Oneida. Wesley was an avid family man and was so proud of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Eula Mae, of the family home; his sons, Donald and his wife, Leigh and Jimmy and his wife, Virginia, his grandchildren, Ana Alkire, Brooke Rappe, Joshua Alkire and his wife, Erica, Christina Terrazas and her husband, Christopher, Lydia Alkire and his great-grandchildren, Elijah and Emma Alkire. Wesley is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Wilma H. Cook of Las Cruces, Imogene Tillman of Sierra Vista, Arizona, Betty June Burke of Stigler, Oklahoma, Julia Alkire, and son, Verne and his wife, Norma Alkire of El Paso, Texas as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, David Alkire, his parents, his seven siblings and his great-granddaughter, Leila Terrazas. Funeral Services will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at the First Baptist Church, 106 S. Miranda, officiated by Reverend Larry Henson. A Family Graveside Service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Restlawn Memorial Park, 4848 Alps, El Paso, Texas where he will be laid to rest. Military honors will be accorded by a United States Navy Honor Guard. Serving as casket bearers will be Donald Alkire, Jimmy Alkire, Joshua Alkire, Christopher Terrazas, Bill Gorman and William McWhorter. Honorary bearers will be Danny Gomez-Leon, Daniel Perez and Elijah Alkire.

The obituary contains one error that should be noted. Wesley Alkire's mother's name was Mamie Ballard Lawrence, not Mamie Ballard.
