WALLA WALLA, Wash. - Esther L. (Shunk) Rose, 94, formerly of Seeley Lake, died of natural causes Monday, March 5, at a care center in Walla Walla, Wash.
Private burial will take place in Mountain View Cemetery in Walla Walla. Herring Funeral Home of Walla Walla is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Marion, Iowa, to Raymond H. and Cecil I. Shunk, Esther attended Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She married Orval T. Rose in 1936 in Cedar Rapids; they were married 66 years.
The Roses lived and farmed in Miller, S.D., and Marion, Iowa, retiring in 1960. They moved to Seeley Lake, wintering in Palm Springs, Calif., and moved to Walla Walla in 1972. After her husband's death, she moved to Wheatland Village and resided there for seven years, until her death.
Esther was a homemaker who enjoyed crafts and was a lifetime Card Club member. She and her husband traveled extensively in their retirement: to Australia, Hawaii, Europe, Japan and the Mediterranean. Esther especially enjoyed playing Rumicube and cards with special friends in Wheatland Village.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Schmatt of Walla Walla; son Stewart (Marilyn) Rose of Great Falls; daughter-in-law Miko Rose of Walla Walla; four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Steven A. Rose.
