Patrick is the son of Patrick and Elizabeth "Betsy" Kingston Burkrey from Illinois. He married Julia A Doolin on 25 Feb 1895 in Morgan County, Illinois, and moved to Kansas City before 1910. They reared 4 children: Patrick, Anna, William, and Lillian. Two infants died shortly after birth, a boy 1908 and a girl 1912. Patrick was a saloon keeper in the early years of marriage, and by 1920 was building houses. He was ill with cancer of the tongue at age 55 and spent his last months with daughter Lillian and son in law Phillip Kissner.
