Zachariah was the first child and son of Renney Belue and his first wife, (unknown). Early documents show Zachariah using the surname BELUE, but later show he was using the surname name spelling as BELEW. It is not known where he was born in 1758. His father, Renney Belue, moved to Union Dist., SC in 1769 and Zachariah lived there until 1827. He had eight siblings, Reuben, Susannah, Renny Jr., Sarah, Judith, Elizabeth, Jesse, and William. He served in the SC Militia under Col. Brandon during the Revolutionary War and is said to have received several wounds. He married Mary Bullington before 1783, and they had eight children, Renny, Sarah, James Perry, Hannah, Elizabeth, Samuel, Susannah, Zachariah Calvin. All these children except James Perry used the surname spelling BELEW. With his last son's name Zachariah Calvin, some have added Calvin and show his name as Zachariah Calvin Belew Sr. There were never any legal documents found using Calvin or Sr., nor did he ever sign his name with Calvin or Sr. He only used Zachariah Belue early in his life and later, Zachariah Belew until his death. Zachariah and Mary moved to Lawrence County, TN in 1827, and are buried in the Second Creek Cemetery. Note: I found 2 memorials for Zachariah Belew, #12185572. The links to his children's memorials are on the Zachariah Belew Memorial.∼It is not known where Zachariah Belew was born at this time, nor his mother's name. Zachariah never used Calvin as a middle name or initial. He had a son, Zacharial Calvin Belew and he was not a Junior. He came to Union District, South Carolina with his father, Renney Belue, and his mother in 1769. He served as a patriot in the Revolutionary War under Col. Thomas Brandon. In a book biography of his Grandson, it states Zachariah received several wounds in the Revolutionary War. He married Mary Bullington and they had 8 known children. The link to 7 of his children are listed below. Hannah (Belew) Robinson's grave has not been found. It is possibly in York Co., SC. In 1827 they moved to Lawrence County, Tennessee where his oldest son Renny Belew was already living. They transferred their church membership from the Fairforest Baptist Church in Union Co., SC, to the Second Creek Baptist Church in Lawrence Co. TN, on July 4, 1830. The church records also show Mrs. Zachariah Belew dying on May 5, 1839. Zachariah is shown living with his son, Renny, on the Lawrence County 1840 census records. Zachariah Belew died February 2, 1845 and buried in the Second Creek Cemetery. It is felt he was buried beside his wife, Mary, whose grave is not marked. His first grave maker was only listed Z. B. with his birth and death dates. With a church grant this marker was replaced with the Zach Belew marker. The final grave marker was replaced with a military marker and was placed there sometime before the year 2000.
