Recoreds further show that he was appointed A.D.C. rank 1st Lieut July 10 1863 to rank from May 29 1863 and resigned as 1st Lt & A.D.C. on the staff of Genl. Walker Trans. Miss. Dept to take effect June 7 1864. No later record found also known as John Compton French and J. Compton French.
