Mrs. Hazel Marie Craft Johnston-Tucker, age 86, of 700 Augusta Street, Covington, Virginia, died Saturday, June 19, 2010, at Alleghany Regional Hospital, Low Moor.
She was the wife of the late Phonsie Edward Johnston and Everett Tucker.
Mrs. Johnston-Tucker was born March 16, 1924 in Alleghany County, the daughter of the late Hoyt Craft and India Caldwell Craft.
She served her country as a member of the United States Navy, where she was stationed at Pearl Harbor and worked as a clerk in the hospital there.
Mrs. Johnston-Tucker was an employee of the former Industrial Rayon, the former C&O Hospital, and Jackson River Internists.
She was a member and former elder of the Low Moor Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Johnston-Tucker was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 4299, the Clifton Forge Women of the Moose, Chapter #22, and the Sara Rice Pryor Chapter #2347 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
Mrs. Johnston-Tucker is survived by a son, Thomas Edward "Tiny" Johnston of Covington; a daughter, Jannie Johnston Crawford and husband, Monty of Covington; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Alice Craft of Eudora, AR; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Hoyt Craft and India Caldwell Craft, Mrs. Johnston-Tucker was preceded in death by two husbands, Phonsie Edward Johnston and Everett Tucker, one daughter, Pamela Ann Johnston; one sister; and three brothers.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2010, from the Chapel of Loving Funeral Home with the Rev. Lisa Marshall officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.
Graveside rites will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 4299.
