Katherine Laevenstein was born Aug. 30, 1910 at St. Peter, KS and was the daughter of Nicklaus and Catherine (Spies) Katzendorn. She passed away Feb. 25, 2001 in the Swedish Medical Center, Englewood, CO at the age of 90 years, 5 months, 25 days.

She attended the St. Anthony Catholic Parachial School in St. Peter, KS. On Nov. 10, 1931 Katherine was united in marriage with Michael Laevenstein in St. Anthony Catholic Church, St. Peter. He passed away in June of 1954. In 1966 Katherine moved to Denver, CO from Collyer, KS. In 1956 she attended Opportunity School at Denver where she learned the skills of power sewing. Katherine was employed by Swallow Mfg. Co. as a seamstress and later worked for Samsonite Corporation. She also was employed as manager of an 18 unit apartment complex for Straus Realty in Denver, retiring in 1999.

Katherine was a former member of St. Michael Catholic Church and it's altar society and the Daughter's of Isabella all of Collyer. She was a current member of The Most Precious Blood Catholic Church of Denver.

Survivors include two sons: Virgil and wife Judy of Denver, CO; Michael Jr. and wife Sandy of Aurora, CO; a daughter Louise Denning and husband Lawrence of Sharon Springs; seven grandchildren: Sherrie Pettigrew and husband Sean; Celeste Lundquist; Shawn Ochsner and wife Heather; Chad Ochsner and wife Cheri; Nicole Rotell; Amber Rotell; and Janell Denning; thirteen great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter; two sisters: Agnes Brungardt of Salina; Appolona Gerstner and husband Wendeline of Collyer and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister Barbara Brungardt.

Funeral services were Friday, March 2, 2001 in the St. Michael Catholic Church, Collyer with Father Donald F. Pfannenstiel officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. The Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney was in charge of arrangements.
