Joseph Arnold Bates 1945 – 1999 Joseph Arnold Bates, age 54, died August 1, 1999 in Ely, Nevada. Born April 3, 1945 in Lake Point, Utah to Elmer and Mary Jane Garrard Bates. He attended High School in Tooele and Delta. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he received many military honors including National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Purple Heart, and Combat Infantryman Badge. Joseph worked as an operating engineer at many construction jobs and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was well loved and will be missed by all. Survived by his ex-wife Sheradeen Peterson and children: Sammy Bates, Salina; Tina Bates, Salina; Menah Harper; eight grandchildren, sisters and brother, Caroline Frampton, Erda; Marlene Bates, Gandy; Erma Maxfield, Delta; Mary Jane Waldahl, Tooele; and Farrell Bates, Pavette, Idaho. Services were held August 6, 1999 at Nickle Mortuary in Delta with interment at Gandy Cemetery.
