Helen Claire, daughter of Alfred "Jack" and Mary (Knott) Boeck, was born on December 31, 1934 in Manilla, Iowa. She was baptized at Sacred Heart Church on February 10, 1935. She attended Manilla Community Schools and on August 16, 1951 was united in marriage with Edwin "Ed" Bandow. The couple made their home in Manilla and nine children were born to this union.

Helen was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a dedicated homemaker. She enjoyed doing embroidery, quilting, camping, reading and taking care of her flowers. Helen especially loved gathering with family and friends over coffee at her home.

After the death of her husband in 2007, Helen remained at home. In September 2010, she was diagnosed with cancer. She passed away in her home on March 5, 2012 surrounded by her family; attaining the age of 77 years, 2 months and 5 days of age.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Helen is survived by her children: Deb and husband John Blom of Manilla; Georgetta and husband Mike Barry of Manilla; Stan Bandow and wife Donna of Jonestown, Texas; Scott Bandow and wife Lorie of Manilla; Wyatt Bandow and wife Sylvia of Manilla; Dale Bandow and wife Jane of Manilla; Kelly Rutherford of Manning; Kim and husband Greg Terlisner of Manilla; and Rachel and husband Kevin Donahue of Jonestown, Texas; 28 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren; siblings: Mary Bargenquast of Texas; Josephine and husband Ray Lingle of Manilla; Raymond Boeck and wife Alice of Manilla; Jane and husband Jim Niday of Cedar Rapids; Judy and husband Don Schaben of Defiance; and Frank Boeck and wife Gloria of Manilla; brother and sisters-in-law: Irv Bandow of Estherville; Berdine Petersen of Ida Grove; and Georgine Sievertsen of Omaha, Nebraska; nieces; nephews; many other relatives and friends.
