August was the son of Henry Francis Hoeller and Mary Anna Heisler. His grandparents (Franz Hoellerer anglicized to Frank Hoeller on his tombstone and Ursula "Catherine" (Evers) Hoellerer) and great grandparent (Johan George Hoellerer & Barbara (Richter) Hoellerer) were from the kingdom of Bavaria which eventually became part of Germany after they left and came to the US.

August married Marie Wankum and they raised 7 kids on their farm in Koeltztown: Henry, Herbert, Margaret, Kathleen, John, Kenneth, and Denice. Bsides farming, he also worked at the Charcoal plant in Meta which had several names over the years, Standard Milling, Patio Chef. He was a proud, hard working man with a soft voice who loved to farm and fish, and who didn't get to enjoy very much of his retirement. His brother was Frank John Hoeller who never married and his sisters were Mathilda (Hoeller) Stumpe wife of Martin and Leona C (Hoeller) Koehler, wife of Frank Koehler. Rest in peace Gus, we miss you.
