He was son of David Smith Walden and Dorcas (Page) Walden He had a large family and was born into a large family, having half brothers and sisters. He was a member of old Mt. Herman Church and a staunch republician. He was married to Bertha Strode, daughter of "Kink" Strode. Their children were:Cass, David, Raymond, Boyd, Harold,Willie Herbert and one daughter, Pauline.
