Ira C. Allen

After an illness of several months' duration, Ira C. Allen, 80 years old, died Monday night, October 10th, at the home of his niece, Mrs. Cora Holbrook, in Schuyler Lake. Death was caused by complication of diseases. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Holbrook home. Interment will be in the Hartwick Cemetery.

He was born in Oneonta, November 7, 1852, a son of Hiram and Jane (Richardson) Allen. he moved to South Hartwick in 1876 where he made his home until nine years ago. He was married in November 1886, to Celia Vars of South Hatrwick. She died nine years ago in December and since then Mr. Allen had made his home with his niece in Schuyler Lake. mr. allen was a retired farmer and was well known and respected by a host of friends.

He is survived by two brothers, John W., of Schuyler Lake and Irving of otego; two nieces, Mrs. Cora Holbrook of Schuyler Lake and Miss Dorothy Allen of Long Island; two nephews, John Allen of Cooperstown and Harry Allen of Otego, besides several cousins.

Mr. Allen was a man who was held in high esteem by all who came in contact with him, both in South Hartwick and this village.
