Donald George Waldhalm

Donald George Waldhalm, former resident of Caldwell, died Aug. 2, of natural causes. He was 82. Dr. Waldhalm was born Jan. 6, 1924, in Enderlin, N.D. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Cleveland as a medical corpsman during World War II. He earned a Ph.D. and became a college professor and animal disease researcher. He enjoyed traveling, especially to Mexico, and considered his second career as a buckaroo the best years of his life. Don trained horses and restored horse-drawn wooden wagons. He moved from Caldwell to central Oregon in 1997.

Survivors include a son, Stephen, and three daughters, Barbara, Peggy and Mary; a sister, Darlene; 19 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Kay, two brothers and a sister.

His funeral will be held Sept. 8, 10 a.m., at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, with interment at Canyon Hill Cemetery at 10 a.m. Sept. 9.
