Burkett - Edgar Leonidas Rasbury, III died on February 28, 2012 at the home of his daughter in Setauket, New York from congestive heart failure. Ed was born July 14, 1924 in Ballinger, Texas, and married to Ann Troy Johnston, September 12, 1959 in Shelby, North Carolina. Ed had a degree in Geological Engineering from North Carolina State University, and was an independent mudlogger in the Abilene area. He served in the air force in Europe during World War II as a bombardier in the 410th bomb group.
He was predeceased by his wife, Ann. Surviving family includes: daughter, Sidney Ann Hemming and her husband Nicholas Gary Hemming of New York City, New York; daughter Emma Troy Holt and her husband William Everett Holt of Setauket, New York; and Alexander Moore Rasbury and his wife Jan Lynn Rasbury of Denton Valley, Texas. Edgar also leaves seven grandchildren: Cody Alexander, Colton James, Colby Edgar, Cathryn Michaela, and Clayton Alan, children of Alexander; and Rebecca Ann and Virginia Troy, daughters of Troy; and two great-grandchildren, Hallie Dawn and Jayden Elizabeth, daughters of Cody Rasbury.
Memorial service will be held at Baptist Church in Burkett at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2012, reception following.
