Died at the home of his daughter Mrs Belcher of Colorado Springs. Enlisted in the Union Army in February 1862 in Company C, 2nd Battalion, under Captain Briggs. He fought at the battle of Lone Jack, Missouri on 16 Aug 1862. Appointed Sheriff of Cass County, Mo., in March 1863, elected sheriff in 1864 and served until 1869. Two of his sons, John J. and James B., were both killed by William Quantrill's Guerilla's in 1862. Both sons were in Company L, Missouri State Militia (MSM).
