FUNERAL RITES FOR BERNIE W. BEARD HELD AUGUST 20
Interment Was Made In Cemetery Near Local Methodist Church
Funeral services for Bernie W. Beard were conducted at the local Methodist church Monday afternoon with the pastor, Rev. J. R. Cameron in charge, Rev. Olin Whitener, local Presbyterian pastor, assisted in in the services.
Deceased was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Dock Beard and was reared by his grand mother, Mrs. Lizzie Webb.
He graduated from the local high school and was married to Miss. Scynthia Spears who with two sons survive. The family had made their home in New Orleans, Louisiana, for the past several years where he was employed. He underwent a major operation in a New Orleans hospital about ten days before his passing Saturday evening at 8:55 o'clock.
He was brought to Leakesville Sunday afternoon and carried to his old home which now belongs to Mrs. Lorena Skehan with whom he lived after the death of his grand mother.
Immediate survivors are his wife, Mrs. Scynthia Beard, two children, Darrell and Devon Beard; one brother, Hunter Beard, of Ellisville, Miss., and one sister, Mrs. Kenneth Shaw, of Saucier, Miss.
Interment was in cemetery near Methodist church beside his mother. Sumrall Funeral Home, of Laurel, Miss., had charge of the body.
Pall bearers were: W. T. Dodds, Jenner McLeod, J. W. Churchwell, J. T. Allums, E. S. Lee and Howard Daughdrill. Published in the Greene County [MS] Herald, 24 Aug 1945.
