Ridley, sometimes called RB, was the son of Jesse and Mary Byrum Ross. Born in IN, he moved to AR with his family. He acquired land and farmed in the Scott County area before moving to CA in the early 1860's.
He married his wife, Eviza, around 1867. They raised six children in Sonoma County. By 1900, he moved his family to the Ramona area of San Diego County. He ranched in this area until his death at the age of 88.
