"...Edith Mary Tavender, born at Aberdare, South Wales, a daughter of George Isaac and Harriet Elizabeth (Roberts) Tavender, who arrived in America in 1916, her father being a coal miner in Yorkshire England. Mr. and Mrs Howes are the parents of three children:
George Edwin born March 31, 1921
Harriet Minerva born December 19, 1922
Clifford Orrin born Aug 24, 1924"

died aged 91 in Franklin County Public Hospital in Greenfield; resident of Leyden; widow of Clifford C Howes; born in Aberdore, Wales, England, came to Leyden in 1916; helped take care of the country store in Leyden until it closed in 1941; was town librarian from 1933-1960; was the last post mistress in Leyden until the office closed in 1943; member of the Guiding Star Grange, Ct Valley Pamona Grange, Women's Society of Christian Service and was superintendent of the Leyden Church School for 40 years; survivors were two sons, George E of Leyden and Clifford O of Buckland, a daughter Mrs Harriet Hines of Leyden and a sister, grandchildren, and four great grandchildren; funeral from Leyden Methodist church; burial Beaver Meadow cemetery; donations to the Edith Howes Memorial Fund, Leyden Church...
