Elizabeth is the daughter of Lieut. John and Margaret Elizabeth Duffey who were stationed with the British army in Jamaica. When her father died, she boarded a ship owned by Capt. Denis Daly, with her widowed mother, and sailed to New York. A romance blossomed and she and Capt. Daly married shortly after the voyage ended in New York in 1834. After marriage the couple settled in Plymouth, No. Carolina where Denis engaged in the lumbering trade, and where they had a daughter, Catherine who died at 2 years. Their two sons, Famed New York theater Manager, Augustin John Daly, and former New York Supreme Court Justice, Joseph Francis Daly were also born at Plymouth, No. Carolina.
