Oather Dunaway

Oather Dunaway, 87, of 726 N. Mill St., Carrier Mills, died 9:20 p.m. Sunday, June 15, 2003, at Harrisburg Medical Center.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills with the Rev. Randy Cates officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at the funeral home.

He was born Jan. 29, 1916, in Williamson County to the late Logan and Edith (Launius) Dunaway. On May 15, 1937, he married the former Lorene Rice, who survives.

He was a retired coal miner at the Sahara Coal Company. He was a member of the Blazing Star Lodge No. 458 of Carrier Mills and was a Methodist by faith.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Carol (Jerry) Smith of Winterhaven, Fla. and Janis (William) Doughty of Springfield; two sisters, Naomi Sturam of Shawneetown and Ruth (Joe) Zivic of Chicago; four grandchildren, Timothy Smith of Phoenix, Ariz., Duane Smith of Evansville, Ind., Laurie Cates of Pawnee and Scott Doughty of Sullivan; and five great-grandchildren, Joel and Rebekah Cates and Caleb, Logan and Hannah Doughty.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
